Linen, Burlap, Bunting.. and a HOW TO!

by Heather on December 15, 2010

Hello! oooh it’s a good day.. sun is shining and I have a
fun tutorial to share!!
I’ve been seeing sweet little banners, buntings, and garlands
popping up all over…
Here’s my take on a fabric version.
Supplies:
Fabric (I used natural linen)
cardstock
crimping scissors
string
sewing machine
thread
needle
twine
burlap
hot glue gun
Cut a rectangle out of card stock.
(I used letter size cut in half)
Cut fabric approx 1/4″ wider on each side.
sew the cardstock to fabric.

Fold accordian style.
Make sure that the first and last folds are
folded paper sides together.

Tie string tightly around the center.

Print your letters of desired words on cardstock.
I used the font Kingthings Petrock in size 150.
Cut a burlap circle a little wider than letter circle.
(I printed on ivory cardstock.. I tried to do white and coffee stain but my ink kept running.. probably due to my cheap quality ink)

a few handstiches to get your circle together.
(while paying no mind to my gross hands)

hot glue your circles together and hang!
I used the string already on the back to tie the twine to.
Then I hot glued the twine to the edge of the pendant so that
it would hang flat.

I followed this tutorial to make this burlap rolled flower.
So happy to have this hanging in my kitchen!
I decided any Christmas decorating I do is going to be
more neutral, warm, and wintery so I can enjoy it longer.
This is a pretty fast one.
You could make it with paper only to make it even faster.
I was actually hoping it would turn out smaller so
that I could hang it vertical.
oh well, I love it just the way it is!
Are you going to try this? What would you choose yours to say?

Very cute! I like this better than any plain paper ones I've seen.

I'd have mine just say a plain old "merry Christmas".
