Yes, decorating for Christmas can be this easy. So why, oh why has it been a two month process? I posted about this on my Facebook page the other day… and I know I’m not alone. At Christmas time (and every other time of the year too) we can feel this insane pressure to do and be it all, all the time.
This year I have learned SO much! But by far the best thing I’ve learned is that I don’t need to be it all do it all all the time. This has been my busiest, and most relaxing Christmas season ever! WHAT?! That makes NO sense? Well for instance I don’t LOVE baking so I have not made a single Christmas cookie yet. It’s just not my thing. Not doing it would make some people miserable but it has set me free! I’ve had more time to visit, host parties, decorate, and make handmade gifts. (and so many of you have been SO good to our family…… keeping us busy wrapping up lovely lil packages for you! Thank you!!!) And because of an abundance of supportive people in my life (especially my husband and my sister Annaliise) I am able to do SO much more of the things I love and share them with you.
Alone, would be such a lonely place to be, wouldn’t it?
I’m not sure if I’m the only one feeling this way but I really do feel a deep sense of something growing and changing. I’m not sure if it’s me, my business, my family………. or all of the above. Not in any monumental ways……. but in the small ways. The ways that if you don’t stop to pay attention you might miss ‘em.
I love the way they kept finding their way into these pictures. I usually always snap a few to keep them happy and tell them to scram (boy!! Does that ever make me sound like a heartless Mom!) But I decided especially for this shoot……. what the diggens, keep them in there. They are what makes home home. I have a feeling that someday when they are grown and gone all the decorating, creativity, etc…… might not have the same level of excitement to it. I could be totally wrong but I envision that at that stage, maybe(?) I won’t need the free therapy??
ok…….. I am off to dream and plan and play and celebrate Christmas with the family for the next couple of weeks!! Merry Christmas to each and every one of you! We are so thankful for you and feel so lucky and blessed!
The Prince of Peace is born!!!
I am leaving you with another corny DIY video (just the way I like ‘em!), a few more photos, and one last giveaway for the year! (go all the way to the bottom for the giveaway details!) Congrats to Valerie #52 for winning last weeks giveaway!

AS you said, alone is a hard place to be. And that’s me this year. I can’t seem to get into the Christmas spirit. I’ve been told my job ends Dec. 24th (and with it my place of residence because I live with the lady I take care of). Instead of feeling festive and celebratory, I feel depressed and dark, scared and worried, frustrated and angry. That being said, I really enjoy your blog and would love to win a year’s subscription to your magazine, which I find uplifting and beautiful. I must say I’m a bit envious of your close family, but I am so glad you have that blessing. I hope you have a Christmas filled with peace, joy, and love and a new year overflowing with abundant blessings. Merry Christmas!

Heather, I share your pain over the Connecticut tragedy. My heart goes out to everybody involved either directly or indirectly. You may remember the murder/suicide that took place on Christmas morning in Grapevine, Texas, last year. The 9-1-1 call made by the shooter was heard nationally as he said “I’m shooting people.” You could hear the dispatcher as well – and she’s my daughter. I cannot even imagine what is going through her mind today as that 9-1-1 call is being televised and so close to the one-year anniversary of the Christmas morning shooting. Please include her in your prayers, as well as the police officers, the firefighters and the medics that handled the incident as you pray for the Connecticut shooting.
I want you to know that I love your blog and what I mostly love is how you personalize each posting. It makes me feel like you are talking to me – and only me. I always smile when I see my name. And this post, of your home and your precious children is no exception. I hope you have a heavenly Christmas – even without baking cookies!
I would love to be the winner of the subscription of Homebound Magazine. But if I’m not, then I hope the winner enjoyes every word, idea and photograph. Thank you!

Yes, today has been such a tragic, sad, difficult day. Somehow your sweet words that there are some new bright lights in heaven has helped. May your home and family be filled with joy and the blessings of Christmas.

Heather,
I thoroughly enjoyed your post. It was striking to me how the pictures came to life when your adorable little ones were in them. The pictures without them made me think of the families who sent their babies to school yesterday morning and whose lives will never be the same. I wish you the best and enjoy your time off!

Hi Heather. My finger is tired from scrolling down through all your comments, but I could not pass up the chance to tell you that I love your tree, garland, and that sweet little girl. That is what makes a special home and in light of all that has happened in the last few days, it is more important than ever to remember and know this. I love the simpleness of your decorating and I’m seeing so much of that this year as it is my first Christmas season on blogging and I am going to take the time to simplify my decorating next year. Even if the kids are grown and gone it is still a joyous time to them and they will always appreciate it, especially if you did it for them when they were small..Have a wonderful weekend..Judy
